“Jesus Center” recognizes and affirms two biblical offices in the church: the Elders and Deacons (Acts 6:4; 1 Timothy 3:1-7; 1 Timothy 3:8-13; Acts 20:28). The Pastoral Staff is composed of the Lead Pastor and the Elders. The Lead Pastor and the other Pastors are equally Elders of the Church.

Rev. Celucien L. Joseph, PhD

Celucien L. Joseph, Lead Pastor

Dr. Celucien L. Joseph (affectionately called “Doctor Lou”) is the Founding Pastor of “Jesus Center Community Church.”  Dr. Joseph is a passionate teacher and an expository preacher of the Word of God. His single passion in life can be summed up in this phrase: “to make King Jesus highly exalted, admired, and greatly honored among all people” (Colossians 1:13-20).

Dr. Joseph was raised in a Christian home; at the age of 12, the Holy Spirit prompted him to make a  commitment to follow Jesus and accept him as Lord and Savior.  As he declared, “to accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior and to continue to follow Him was the best decision I made in life as a young man.” He has extensive experience in teaching and preaching the Word of God and  in engaging in short term mission trips, both nationally and internationally. While he has traveled across the seas to Africa for missionary endeavors, he has spent sixteen years participating in evangelistic and social outreach ministries. As a missionary, he regularly goes to Haiti on mission trips to provide training for pastors, church leaders, and those who are called to the Christian ministry. He is the Founder & President of Hope for Today Outreach,  a Christian faith-based and non-profit organization that empowers families,  individuals, the poor, and the needy in Haiti by meeting their material and spiritual needs.

Dr. Joseph received his B.A. from The Baptist College of Florida.  He holds an M.A. in French language and literature from the University of Louisville (Louisville, KY). In addition, he holds an Advanced Master of Divinity (M.Div) in Biblical and Theological Studies, from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Louisville, KY), and a Master of Theology (Th.M.) in New Testament, from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (Fort Worth, TX). He received his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Texas at Dallas (Richardson, TX), where he studied (American) Literary Studies with an emphasis in African American Intellectual History, Caribbean Culture and Literature, and African American Literature. Dr. Joseph’s second PhD in Systematic Theology and Christian Ethics is from the University of Pretoria (Pretoria, South Africa).  He has done additional studies in the Humanities and Religious Studies at the University of Texas at Dallas and the University of Louisville.

Dr. Joseph is a Christian theologian and thinker, and an educator who has authored many books. Currently, he serves as Professor of English at Indian River State College. Previously, he has taught at Palm Beach State College and Tarrant County College. He is also a former seminary Professor at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary–South Florida Extension Center.

Dr. Joseph is married to Katia Joseph; together, they have four children: Terrence, Joshua, Abigail, and Emily. The family lives in Fort Pierce, Florida. For hobbies, he enjoys reading, watching sports (i.e. soccer), listening to music (i.e. Contemporary Christian Worship, Jazz, Classical) and traveling in different parts of the United States and other places with his family. More importantly, he enjoys spending time with his family. Dr. Joseph is a bibliophile and likes to brag about his 4300 book-home library.

His philosophy of Christian ministry is grounded in John 17: 3, which reads And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent,” and in Colossians 1:13-20:

13. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. 19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
