  1. Work is God’s idea that comes with blessings.
  • Work is God’s design. It is not the effect of the fall. The fall or the curse radically transformed the nature of work and human relationships or interactions in the workplace. Work was not created as the result of fall. Work provides meaning to life and establishes human dignity in all human interactions.
  • Work is a virtue that is connected directly to God’s revelation and creation of man and woman. Every created human being is connected somewhat to labor or work. Christians should cultivate good work ethics that honor God and support the biblical teaching about the dignity of work.
  1. Work as a Divine Institution
  • Genesis 2:15 “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and keep it.”
  • Exodus 20:9 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work,

Because God has ordained work for people, he also ordained blessings for those who work:

  • Psalm 128:2
  • You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you.
  • Proverbs 12:11

Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits lacks sense.

  • Ecclesiastes 3:13

Also, that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God’s gift to man.

  • Proverbs 12:11

Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits lacks sense.

  • Ecclesiastes 3:13

Also, that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God’s gift to man.

The Fall Changed the nature of work and human interactions

Genesis 3:17-19

And to Adam he said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

  1. Jesus is a Perfect Example of a Good and Faithful Worker.
    • John 9:4, “As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.”
  • John 4:34, “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.”
  •  John 17:4, “I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.”

John 17:1-26

  • “When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed. …”

  • Proverbs 19:17

  • Deuteronomy 15:11

For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore, I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’

  • Proverbs 14:31

Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honors him.

  • Luke 10:7 , And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house.
  • Warning to Rich Oppressors: James 5:1-6
  • 5 Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. 2 Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. 3 Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. 4 Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. 5 You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. 6 You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.

AMEN!
